About
Politics is You is a non-partisan political blog which seeks to help achieve the needed process reforms of the United States government. It is the culmination of several years of volunteer work in urban community service and election reform in Boston, Massachusetts. At its broadest, it is a response to America’s crisis of civic apathy and misapplied positive energy in our political, community, and economic life.
Politics is You urges citizens to get real about what constitutes real change. It blows the hot air out of bubble-gum fashions like “community service,” vague hope and change appeals, “corporate social responsibility,” the reliance on messiah personalities, and the like. It prods citizens to think long term and to think structurally about how to keep America’s democratic experiment working the way it was supposed to work. Politics is You advises you to stay off of the rhetorical minefields of our major media, and avoid being a pawn in the endless meme warfare that holds you hostage to your better sensibilities.
Politics is You seeks not only to educate and activate. It requires you to integrate some dose of civic action into your lifestyle — whether that be a phone call to a state senator every couple of weeks, or attendance at a town meeting or a downtown political rally. Reading the newspaper and debating the issues of the day with your neighbor is no longer enough. Get out and organize. Join a political group in your city. Utilize your law-decreed freedom to participate and get in the game.
Politics isn’t a spectator sport. Politics is YOU.
